The Start

2014, the KIS VEX Robotics club opened and started with 20+ members, reaching the maximum number of members in the KIS Club system. The KIS VEX Robotics club had 4 changes for officers maintaining the club as one of the oldest club in Korea International School.

High school club started with 18 students. This was the first year in which the club would represent KIS in the Vex National Championship. We were divided into three teams organized under three heads who were responsible for providing feedback and teaching the new members the fundamental principles of Vex Robotics.

The club won 2nd place in the Vex Robotics National Scrimmage, the first award for KIS. In the Vex Robotics Korean National Championship 2015, the club team ranked 2nd in programming skills and 5th place in the tournament rounds. This early success propelled the teams to improve for next year's competition: Nothing But Net.

For the first time, Korea International School has been granted the responsibility of hosting the Vex Korea National Championship 2017. The competition would be hosted at our school on February 18. In addition to the national competition, our club is launching a volunteering service for North Korean refugees. This service would support refugees in sharing their passion for robotics and learning how to become active participants in Vex Robotics.

The high school club began the year with new members. The club followed an annual curriculum, which assigned the workshops and tasks for the students to learn skills necessary for the competition. For example, experienced members would immediately begin a design process and collaborate on ideas for the competition. New members would start building classroom clawbots to learn the fundamentals before they built their own robots.

At the Vex Robotics Korean National Championship, our representative team won the Programming Skills Champion Award, the first award our club has received from the National Championships. This would not have been possible without the determination, effort, and perseverance of our team members who were will to support each other at every step. The Programming Skills Champion Award showcased the club's true potential in Vex Robotics.

The Vex Robotics club proudly had three teams move up to the semi-finals for the Vex Korea National Championship 2018 at Chadwick International. One of the teams included a Freshman team, made up of the underdog members of the Vex Robotics Club, and this experience is likely to last for their high school career.

Another year went past, and new members joined the high school club. The Vex robotics club is delighted to have two teams represent KIS as quarterfinalists of the Vex Korea National Championship 2019 at Chadwick International. The experience significantly empowered newer members of the club, and we are looking forward to next year's game.

OUR FUTURE PLANS

We plan to give back to the community with purpose by teaching and educating the youth, made up of the future leaders of robotics. When discussing our future plans, our VEX Robotics Club had one particular goal in mind: preparing the inexperienced members so that they can one day become the leaders of this club. The time upperclassmen hold those officer positions is ephemeral, so the upperclassmen will have to pass down their knowledge down to the future leaders of VEX Robotics Club. With a growth mindset, the VEX Club members will continuously strive towards competing at the National Vex Championships, while not forgetting to have fun at the same time.

NEW PLACE, NEW BEGINNING

NEW PLACE, NEW BEGINNING

Korea International School sponsored the STEM department with a new renovation. The newly student-designed STEM Suite is located in the High School Building and has grown as a pride of Korea International School. The open classroom concept encourages new ideas and dreams to form, and eliminates safety issues with easy supervision.

KIS VEX Robotics Club uses the STEM Suite as a main open studio for building robots. Shared parts are easily accessible increasing productivity. The shelves of the STEM Suite are filled with new VEX V5 parts, supporting the students in myriad of ways.
